Jose Iglesias Close to Returning

“He’ll hopefully play the whole game up there today and be back here with us tomorrow. We’ll reevaluate him, and hopefully we’ll be ready to plug him in soon.”

Those were the words of PawSox manager Arnie Beyeler talking about the second rehab start for Jose Iglesias in Lowell this afternoon.

The plan is for the PawSox shortstop to play all nine innings with the Spinners today without any setbacks. Iglesias, who hasn’t played since May 25 because of a lower back injury, played six innings in Lowell on Friday and finished 2-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base. Both of his hits were singles up the middle (one was a ground ball, the other a line drive).

“I felt good, no setbacks,” Iglesias said Saturday from the PawSox dugout. “Today [Saturday] is a regeneration day to get some treatment and make sure everything still feels good.”

The biggest question everyone needs an answer to is what kind of spread Iglesias bought for the Spinners. With a solid group of latin players in Lowell, Jose provided the guys with a Dominican-inspired spread featuring, among other things, lots of chicken and rice.

At 21 years/123 days old, Iglesias was the youngest Red Sox player to appear in a game since Jeff Suppan at 21 years/94 days on April 5, 1996 vs. Kansas City. (Kelly O’Connor).
