PawSox Send Four to Triple-A All-Star Game
The PawSox join the Charlotte Knights (White Sox) as the only two teams in the International League to send four players this this year’s Triple-A All-Star game held on July 11 in Buffalo.
Of the four Pawtucket All-Stars, three played for a different parent club last season (Gomez, Braves; Ciriaco, Pirates; Germano, Indians/Korea).
Ryan Lavarnway: The PawSox catcher is hitting over .400 this month and is showing why he might very well be the best catcher in the league. Currently riding an eight-game hitting streak, the Yale product is catching everyday for the first time in his pro career.
Mauro Gomez: A mid-season All-Star year season with Gwinnett, Gomez has been the pop in the PawSox lineup since Opening Day. He ranks among the league-leaders in virtually every offensive category and has been an extra-base machine with 41 of his 76 hits going for extras.
Pedro Ciriaco: As manager Arnie Beyeler once said, Ciriaco is the guy who gets the PawSox offense going. Coming off a career-best 16-game hit streak, not only has he been a consistent hitter, he was able to slide over to shortstop when Jose Iglesias landed on the DL (back).
Justin Germano: The PawSox ace, Germano ranks 5th in the league with a 2.60 ERA and is third in the I.L. with a 0.94 WHIP. This month he’s 2-1 with a 2.08 ERA.
The fifth member of the PawSox making the trip to Buffalo is Arnie Beyler. The second-year skipper will also be coaching for the World Team at this year’s XM All-Stars Futures Game in Kansas City on July 8.
