Andrew Bailey Scheduled to Pitch Sunday
After recently pitching in back-to-back days for the first time since thumb surgery, Andrew Bailey is scheduled to make his third rehab appearance for the PawSox Sunday night in Buffalo.
The 2009 American League Rookie of the Year pitched Wednesday and Thursday at McCoy Stadium, and, overall, has made five total rehab appearances. With Pawtucket, Bailey has allowed one hit while striking out three batters over two scoreless innings.
“I felt great,” Bailey said from the visiting clubhouse in Buffalo Sunday afternoon. “It was definitely a step in the right direction and I was able to get through my two innings without any hiccups.
“Today I’ll go out there, see how [the thumb] bounces back from back-to-back days, but I don’t foresee any issues. We’ll reassess, and hopefully I’ll be with the team soon.”
Bailey has looked sharp in his two innings with the PawSox, especially Wednesday when he needed just 11 pitches to retire the side in order. He hit 94 mph twice that day, with the final time on a swinging strikeout.
