Gearing up for the Opener

In just eight days, the PawSox will host the Lehigh Valley IronPigs at McCoy Stadium at 7:05pm.

Remember when last season ended on September 14 when Durham’s Mike Fontenot caught Alex Hassan’s pop up to clinch the Governors’ Cup for the Bulls? Feels like a long time ago. Maybe that just the cold winter talking, but come this time next week on Thursday, the PawSox will be taking batting practice on the field and their defense of their North Division crown will begin.

McCoy Stadium has made a hand full of changes, but the most important one hangs above the entrance to the park…

You see the faces of the guys who helped bring that trophy back to Boston, all of whom have graced the McCoy Stadium clubhouse as recently as 2013.

It just speaks to the commitment the Red Sox organization has to building this program from within and the great work its executives do on a day in and day out basis.

With that said, one of the architects of the system is Director of Player Development, Ben Crockett. I’ve had a chance to get to know him over the last year and he is one of the sharpest baseball guys out there. Not just because he played the game at a high level, but because he truly has a passion for it.

Fans will be lucky to hear him speak with former Red Sox catcher and TV personality Bob Montgomery at the PawSox Welcome Home Luncheon on Wednesday April 2nd, a week from tomorrow, at Noon at the Providence Marriott Downtown. The two will chat about the Red Sox and the state of the system as the club in Boston will try to defend it’s World Series title.

The 2014 PawSox will also be in attendance along with new Manager Kevin Boles, new coach Bruce Crabbe and returning Pitching Coach Rich Sauveur and Hitting Coach Dave Joppie.

Cost is $40 per person and reservations can be made by calling the Northern Rhode Island Chamber’s Registration Hotline at (401) 334-1000 or by registering with this link: http://www.nrichamber.com/events/eventdetail.aspx?EventID=1238

And, while this blog is not necessarily about me and my life, but more my views on what is going on with the PawSox and Red Sox, I am thrilled to announce that my greatest adventure yet is about to take place…I’m going to be a dad. My wife, Ashley, and I are due with our first child in late September and we could not be happier about the news. Adding yet another new member to the Red Sox/PawSox fan club.

Hmm it looks like your site ate my first comment (it
was super long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I had written and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog.
I as well am an aspiring blog writer but I’m still new to
the whole thing. Do you have any helpful hints for inexperienced
blog writers? I’d genuinely appreciate it.
