There’s something to be said about being at the right place at the right time.
Just ask the Indianapolis Indians.
As you probably know, this year’s Super Bowl will be held in Indianapolis at Lucas Oil Field. If you’ve ever lived in a city hosting the Super Bowl, you know first-hand that the NFL takes over the entire city – not just the stadium.
This trend is continuing in 2012 and one of the biggest beneficiaries are the Indians, the Triple-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, and fellow members of the International League.
How are they benefitting? Nothing too much, just a celebrity beach football game played in an enormous, temporary built structure on their field. Oh, and the entire event will be televised and is known as the DIRECTV Celebrity Beach Bowl.
It might also be the first time the word “beach” is placed in the same sentence as “Indianapolis.”
Congrats to the Indians for hosting such a big event. Although I’m sure they’re receiving help form the NFL, this is an enormous task that doesn’t make for a “typical” offseason.
By the look of things, preparations are going well. Below are some pics from the team’s Facebook page showing the construction.
The game kicks off Saturday, February 4 at 1 p.m. Although they haven’t announced which celebrities will attend, last year’s event featured Barry Sanders, Alex Rodriguez, Eddie George, Warren Moon, Guy Fieri, Hayden Panettiere, Marisa Miller, and others.
No matter who shows up, it makes this cloudy day at McCoy Stadium seem pretty uneventful.
